Phu Quoc Island is a paradise land located in the Gulf of Thailand just off the coast of Cambodia. The Vietnamese island is the perfect holiday destination featuring white sands, beach resorts and tranquil waters. To reach the island, you can travel from Ho Cho Minh City to Phu Quoc by bus with a change to a ferry included. This journey takes around six hours and is very good value. If you prefer to travel more directly and quicker then you can fly to Phu Quoc International Airport. Another option is to book a private car from Ho Chi Minh to the airport. This is the most expensive route however it’s much more comfortable.

During the Vietnam War, northern Vietnamese soldiers were imprisoned here. The prison, now a museum, exhibits torture instruments as well as photographs of former prisoners. The prison is a reminder of the brutalities of war and although it might not be for everyone, it’s a way for tourists to learn more about Vietnam’s history. There is a small entrance fee to gain access and guided tours are available in a variety of different languages.

8. Suoi Tranh Waterfall

Although it’s not very high, the Suoi Tranh Waterfall is located in a beautiful rainforest surrounded by caves and rock pools. It’s a very easy 10 to 15-minute walk to reach the waterfalls from the main entrance. If you fancy something a bit tougher, you can walk 15 kilometres past the waterfall and you will arrive at the cave formation, Hang Doi.
