In recent years, adventure sports have become a popular form of recreation worldwide. Vietnam is no exception. In fact, it is now considered one of the top countries in the world for experiencing a wide variety of adventure sports. Here are some examples of adventure sports found in Vietnam.
Canyoning
Canyoning is the activity of rappelling, or abseiling as its called in Vietnam, down the face of a waterfall. The best area for this activity in Vietnam is around the small mountain city of Dalat. Abseiling is challenging enough on the face of a dry wall let alone on the face of a wet waterfall. The typical height of a cliff used in abseiling is between 12 and 30 meters high. Often times the abseiler will release their rope about 10m above the water pool below, making for a very exciting climax to their descent as they plunge into the water pool below.
Cliff jumping is another method of experiencing these waterfalls. Typically, a cliff jump involves hurling yourself off the edge out into space anywhere from 10m to 20m above the water pool below. Making for, providing you jump out far enough, a very exciting ending to your cliff jumping experience.
The Washing Machine is the most challenging Canyoning experience to be found in Dalat. This is performed on a waterfall gushing heavily with water. When you’re near the bottom of the fall, your pre-measured rope will come to its end and while your still holding on to the rope you move into the middle of the water flow where the force of the rushing water will begin to spin you around as though you were in a washing machine. While spinning you loose your orientation causing you to eventually let go of the rope, hoping that you will fall cleanly into the water below, and not be grazing the side of the rocks on your way down.

Kitesurfing in Mui Ne
The most popular adventure activity by far which is practiced in Mui Ne is kite surfing. Mui Ne is considered by many experts to be one of the world’s premier kite surfing destinations. This is an extreme version of board surfing where the surfer is strapped in a harness on to the kite while standing with their feet strapped on to the floating surf board.
