Apply Vietnam visa online (Vietnam e-visa) for Japanese citizens

Are you thinking of traveling to Vietnam sometime in the near future? You aren’t alone! Most of the tourists that visit Vietnam are actually from Asia. Most of them come from China, Taiwan, South Korea and… You guessed it. Japan! Perhaps it is because it’s quite convenient and relatively close to go to Vietnam, or perhaps it’s because Vietnam has become one of the most popular destinations in Asia and a lot of people are wondering – how come? What is there?

Well… There are plenty of things to do here. You can go up north, to see the beautiful rice terraces and visit the Hmong people to find out more about their culture and way of life. If you go a bit further south, you are in the capital city of Vietnam – Hanoi. A bustling city that never seems to sleep. Here you will see a side of Vietnam that is very interesting and proud. And let’s not forget – amazing food. If you go a few hours down south from Vietnam, you will end up in one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Hoi An. It is one of the most popular destinations for people who travels to Vietnam and it’s not hard to see why when you go there. Fascinating architecture, a calmer way of living and of course – fantastic food. The food in Vietnam is always worth mentioning more than once. Then you can go further south to Vietnam’s biggest city, Ho Chi Minh City, and go to Cu Chi Tunnels. Learn more about Vietnam’s history and the Vietnam War with a local tour guide.

But before you leave to Vietnam, you might want to know… Are you required to have a visa if you travel to Vietnam as a Japanese citizen? The answer is: Yes and No. If you are only staying in Vietnam for 15 days and can provide the arrival and exit date, you can stay Visa Free in the country. However, if you want to stay for longer than 15 days, you need a visa.

There are three ways for you to acquire a visa to Vietnam.

1. Electronic visa or Vietnam e-visa for Japanese passport holders

From 01 Feb 2019, under Decision 17/2019/NĐ-CP of the Government of Vietnam, citizens of Japan are eligible to apply online for an e-visa of Vietnam online (e-visa is a single entry valid for staying 30 days).

Japanese passport holders, who want to visit Vietnam for less than 30 days for a single trip, can apply online for an e-visa directly at the government website https://evisa.immigration.gov.vn(please note that the fee is non-refundable if you apply your e-visa at the government website).

If you want to secure your e-visa with refundable policy (100% satisfied or get back your money) you can apply your e-visa through our easy form application (filling your entry date, entry and exit port of arrival then submit your passport copy online) then we will take care the rest of procedure to get your e-visa on time as promise.

Note : if you want to visit Vietnam for multiple times in one month or want to visit Vietnam for more than one month, please choose options below :

2. Visa On Arrival Vietnam – Apply online for pre-approval then pick up your visa on arrival at the airport of Vietnam

The first option you have is to apply for a Vietnam Visa online (which we personally recommend). This is called a Visa on Arrival (VOA) and is the most effective way because of its convenience, quickness, safety and it is also inexpensive. You can apply for this anywhere in the world – whether you are in Japan or somewhere else, all you need to do is have a computer and internet. This is the most effective way to apply for a visa if you are going to Vietnam. There is no need to send your passport or any other important private documents. What you need to do is fill out an Online Application Form, wait for your confirmation letter and you will normally receive an Approval Letter within 2 working days. When everything is done, don’t forget to print out the finalized document, bring it to the airport in Vietnam and get it stamped by one of the immigration officers.

If you forgot to apply for a visa in good time, there is also the opportunity to get an Emergency Visa. It is then proceeded from 30 minutes to 4 hours.

2. Applying for a Visa at the Consulate or Embassy of Vietnam in Japan

The last option for you is to apply for a Visa at the Consulate or Embassy of Vietnam in Japan. You have to find out about the nearest Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and bring your passport and any relevant documents. This is the more inconvenient choice, if you live far away from the embassy for example. It also takes a bit longer time applying for and waiting. However, it is one of the choices so if this fits you better, you will be glad to know that you can apply for a visa via an embassy or consulate.

We hope that this article has been helpful for you and we wish you a safe (and FUN!) journey in Vietnam. There is always something new to explore in this country, so be ready to have an adventurous trip! Arigatou!
