You may be wondering – What is so special about Vietnam and why does so many people travel there?
There’s not really one answer to that. Vietnam is neighboring with popular Thailand, as well as Laos and Cambodia who has gotten a lot of attention lately. Vietnam is also quite an easy country to travel around in and maybe most importantly, it is very affordable. People who travels wants value for their money, and in Vietnam they get it plus so much more. It truly is one of the most beautiful countries and also one of the more diverse ones.
What exactly is it that makes Vietnam stand out? Is it the majestic mountains, the long stretches of sand beaches along the coast, the culinary scene or is it the culture? It is all individually, right. Some people like different things than you do. But if you like to do many different activities on your trip, you will be happy to know that Vietnam can offer many of them. But before you travel to Vietnam, there is a little thing to always think about – Visas. If you are a citizen from New Zealand, you are required to obtain a visa before entering the country, no matter of the length of your trip. Please make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months before applying for a visa.

2. Visa on Arrival – Apply online for pre-approval then pick up your visa on arrival at the airport of Vietnam
The second option we highly recommend you, which is the Visa on Arrival. However, important to note is that it is only applicable if you travel by air to Vietnam. The Visa on Arrival (VOA) is the most effective one to get because of its convenience, quickness, simplicity, safety and that it is inexpensive. You can apply for this anywhere in the world – whether you are in New Zealand or somewhere else, all you need to do is have a computer and internet. This is the most effective way to apply for a visa if you are going to Vietnam. There is no need to send your passport or any other important private documents. What you need to do is fill out an Online Application Form, wait for your confirmation letter and you will normally receive an Approval Letter within 2 working days. When everything is done, don’t forget to print out the finalized document, bring it to the airport in Vietnam and get it stamped by one of the immigration officers.
If you forgot to apply for a visa in good time, there is also the opportunity to get an Emergency Visa. It is then proceeded from 30 minutes to 4 hours.
3. Apply for Visa at a Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand
The last option for you is to apply for a Visa at a Vietnamese consulate or Vietnamese embassy in New Zealand. You will need to search for the nearest Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand and bring your passport and any relevant documents. This is the more inconvenient choice, for example if you live far away from the embassy. It also takes a bit longer time applying for and the waiting time can vary as well. However, this is the second option so if this fits you better, you will be glad to know that you can apply for a visa via an embassy or consulate.
